Benjamin P. Colosky

Distinguished Engineer

Ben was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on January 24, 1932, to the late Benjamin and Anna Colosky. In 1953, he married Louise Anita Johnston from Plainfield, New Jersey.

He earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Ceramics Engineering from Rutgers University. While working on his doctorate he served as an instructor at Rutgers’ College of Engineering. He earned a Master of Science in Management from MIT’s Sloan School (1967). He was a member of Tau Beta Pi (the national engineering honors society), Keramos, (the ceramic engineering honor society) and Sigma Xi (a research honor society). In 1972 he was awarded “Engineer of the Year” by the Rutgers Engineering Society and served as a visiting professor for the College of Engineering at Rutgers from 1977 to 1985.

Ben won first place in the National Student Speaking Contest at the American Ceramic Society Convention in 1953. He wrote an article “Thermal Conductivity Measurements on Silica” which was published by the American Ceramic Society bulletin in November, 1952. Ben’s career included executive positions in business development and marketing at Owens Illinois, Fansteel, RCA and Corning Glass. After retiring from Owens Illinois, he became a consultant specializing in reengineering and business development.

Ben’s Interests and hobbies included photography and camera restoration, motorcycle riding, skeet shooting competitions, personal computers and he enjoyed listening to classical music.
